ARTISTAS PORTUGUESES E BRASILEIROS
No
campo das artes, desde meados do século XIX, se estabeleceu um
intenso e afetuoso intercâmbio entre Brasil e Portugal. Habitualmente
vinham companhias portuguesas trazendo em seu elenco muitos atores que
retornariam numerosas vezes. Alguns até se radicariam e terminariam
seus dias aqui. Também nossos artistas se deslocavam para Portugal
em busca de sucesso.
Encontram-se no painel,
entre os atores portugueses, o grande Eduardo Brazão que entre
1870 e 1920 apresentou-se constantemente no Brasil; Palmyra Bastos que
já em 1892 passou a ser também aplaudida por nossas platéias;
e Maria Falcão que em 1912 tornou-se a estrela da primeira Companhia
Nacional que ocupou o Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, formada por
Eduardo Victorino.
Representando os atores
brasileiros temos Leopoldo Fróes, empresário de êxito
e grande comediante, admirado tanto no Brasil quanto em Portugal; Itália
Fausta, nossa maior atriz dramática de sua geração;
e Procópio Ferreira, de longa e gloriosa carreira, exibindo sempre
uma personalidade excepcional e brilhante, justamente aclamado como um
dos maiores atores brasileiros de todos os tempos.
PORTUGUESE AND BRAZILIAN ARTISTS
An
intense and affectionate exchange between Brazil and Portugal took place
in the field of arts from the middle of the XIXth. century on. Portuguese
companies would arrive regularly bringing along several actors in their
casts who would often return to this country and even settle and end their
days here. Our artists would also travel to Portugal look for success.
We can find in this panel,
among the Portuguese actors, the great Eduardo Brazao who, between 1870
and 1920 played constantly in Brazil; Palmyra Bastos who as early as 1892
also began to acclaimed by our audiences as well as Maria Falcao who became
the star of the first National Company, which was formed by Eduardo Victorino,
and played at the Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro.
Representing the Brazilian
actors we have Leopoldo Froes who was a successful impresario as well
as a great comedian as admired in Brazil as in Portugal; Italia Fausta,
our greatest dramatic actress of her generation; and Procopio Ferreira
who had a long and glorious acting career, always demonstrating na exceptional
and shining personality, and who was justly acclaimed as one of the greatest
Brazilian actors of all times.
